Personal Information
My name is Megan Guenther and I am a senior at Western Oregon University. I will be finishing up school in December 2008 and I will be recieving my Bachelor's Degree in Health Promotion with a minor in Human Biology. It took me awhile to warm up to Western Oregon and although I wanted to transfer many times, I am very glad I stuck around because I don't think I would have found the path that I was supposed to be on if I were at any other school. I officially became a Health Promotion major in the Spring of 2007 and I am very happy with that decision, especially after going through so many different majors and feeling like I would never find one that I was passionate about and that would fit me.
I have learned so many things in the last year in all of my health classes. I also know I have picked up so many different skills, and also builded on skills that I already have. I feel like I have a little better understanding of human nature and why people do the things that they, I have learned this from health classes and also a few psychology classes I have taken. I have always been a person that cares a lot about the people around me and the people in my life, but after being in the health program for the last year I think I have expanded on that and learned that I really care about people as a whole, especially in terms of public health. I have learned that I care for the common good of people and want everything to be fair for everyone in the world. I have realized, through this major, how much I want to help people and how I really want to be involved in the community, promoting health and wellbeing.
Although I haven't had a lot of experience, outside of school, in the health field, I hope to continue to learn and get more experience in my last few terms of school and after I graduate. I am doing an internship this summer and some volunteer work in the health field that I think will help me grow and learn more about health promotion. I also am not exactly sure what I want to do after I graduate so I hope that the experiences I have will help me figure that out. I plan on going to graduate school within the next year or two, but in the meantime I am going to get as much experience as I can in the health field, by volunteering and doing internships and hopfully finding a good job that will start me out and point me in the right direction.
I will miss school when I am done, but I am very excited to graduate and experience the realworld and see what is out there for me and experience wonderful opportunities.
